Du Sol au Soleil, 2021-2022

Tomás Saraceno

22 July, 2021 - 24 April, 2022 - Extension until November 13, 2022

How can we attune to the webs of the Earth, by connecting with the myriad of presences, both animate and inanimate, aerial and terrestrial, that meet and cohabit within it? The exhibition Du sol au soleil by Tomás Saraceno is imagined as a wander across human and non-human universes, revealing their choreographies, and the limitless yet fragile bonds that unite these worlds. From a spider/web to a fossil free flying balloon, from flying gardens to the hidden score of celestial phenomena, the exhibition explores the connections between what lies below and above the Earth’s surface, and that ultimately take place in a shared cosmos. While some human activities continue to threaten entire ecologies, Du sol au soleil is an invitation to build sustained attunements with others and for us to poetically rethink alternative ways of inhabiting the world.

Taking place in Le Domaine des Etangs, the project draws its inspiration from its unique settings and its attention to the preservation of ecosystems and the diversity of their compositions. Le Domaine des Etangs sits next to the 20km2 Rochechouart meteorite crater, and thus appears as a place uniting the elements and celebrating entanglements between the aquatic, the terrestrial and the celestial. A series of public events related to the cultivation of interspecies attunement, the art of noticing, and how to build more equitable modes of existence with the environment, will be held throughout the exhibition. The project will culminate with the installation in the Domaine des Etangs of the site specific, monumental and permanent work Du sol au soleil in 2022, an aerial structure, both cloud and spider’s web, which unveils perspectives otherwise inaccessible to humankind.

Curated by Daniel Moquay and Phillipe Siauve, the exhibition “Yves Klein, Elements and Colours” has invited you to discover this timeless artist. Beyond his world-renowned “IKB” Blue, Klein has produced a body of work that crosses the boundaries of conceptual art, corporal art and happening, signalling a radical turning point for modern art. With his Fire Paintings and his Coloured Fire Paintings, his Cosmogonies, his Monochromes, his Anthropometries, his Immaterial works and his Air Architecture, this exhibition showcases significant and essential pieces from his work which are directly connected to nature and the elements.

Echoing the philosophy of the Domaine, the exhibition invites visitors to reconnect with Nature whose creative power the artist strove to express throughout his career, while capturing the invisible links that join the components of the universe.

After all, my aim is to extract and obtain the trace of the immediate from all natural objects, whatever their origin – [and] the circumstances

La Lumière des Mondes, 2019

The exhibition “La Lumière des Mondes” (The Light of the Worlds) embodied and celebrated the connection between beings, beyond mere lineage. Nature begets Creation, Light helps reveal it.
Without light, the earth would be shrouded in darkness. Prophecy, fairy tales, mythology, whether folkloric or religious, and stories mentioning the Sun, the torch that gave Life to Earth, are legendary. Light is essential for artists. Many attempt to capture, embody and enhance Light, but it is also and primarily a symbol. It guides us and enshrouds us.

Comprising thirty or so works by around twenty international artists from all backgrounds, this second group exhibition revealed another aspect of the Dragonfly Collection. In La Laiterie of the Domaine des Etangs, the 450 square-meter loft was free of picture rails. The pieces interacted with each other. As they entered, the visitors could view all the works and gradually discover their own affinities. La Laiterie is set in a Park where Nature prevails. We wished for the visits to unfold as if at the heart of Nature: sometimes contemplative, sometimes inspiring, blending thoughts and emotions.
A soundtrack by Mathieu Lamboley inspired by water was broadcast and invited visitors to seamlessly wander from a painting to a sculpture, from a drawing to a statuette. They each composed their own score and, above all, took the time to do so at their own pace.

Poussières d'Étoiles, 2018

For Poussières d’étoiles (Stardust), its inaugural exhibition that ran from 26th May to 15th December 2018, La Laiterie explored celestial paths, a wander between the Earth and the stars through twenty-one international artists. This exhibition, built around the Dragonfly Collection set up by Garance Primat, was a cosmic journey inspired by Hubert Reeves. In this region rich in meteorite falls, the works collected remind us that all individuals carry the universe within them and that the first source of creation is Life.

Tribu/s du Monde, 2017

From September to December 2017, the Domaine des Etangs® hosted at La Laiterie the photographic installation TRIBU/S DU MONDE by Anne de Vandière, after a remarkable exhibition at Musée de l’Homme in Paris, from October 2016 to January 2017.

In perfect harmony with the philosophy of the Domaine des Etangs®, TRIBU/S DU MONDE proposed to highlight the incredible vitality of peoples, groups possessing extraordinary know-how and carrying a cultural diversity essential to maintaining the vital balance and the wealth of humanity.

This exhibition created a link with these “sentinels of the Earth”, who are the precious and fragile witnesses of our past, present and future equilibrium.
