is everywhere

Art in the Domaine

At the Domaine des Etangs, Art resonates everywhere, as if it had found a natural home in this 2,500-acre estate whose plant and mineral beauty instantly inspires artists. Artists who are sensitive to the cosmic and eternal forces of Nature, and to the need to save it from ecological perils communicate with the environment here and with the surrounding elements.

The Garance Primat Collection welcomes in situ works by prestigious contemporary artists, such as Lee Ufan, Tomás Saraceno, Jean-Michel Othoniel or Tony Cragg... An Art and Nature trail, comprising a dozen monumental and spectacular pieces scattered throughout the estate, reflects the spirit of the Collection. But Art also is also showcased in an exhibition space, La Laiterie, as well as in the hotel itself, whose walls and staircases display striking paintings and photographs. In each of the dedicated spaces, in the open air or indoors, the Collection thus highlights the existing links, nowadays often overlooked, between the rational and the irrational, the infinitely small and the infinitely big, the visible and the invisible, the sky and the earth, the water and the plant world. Timeless, universal and all-embracing, the Collection reminds us of how the living is embodied in many forms, whether in flowers stars, water, sky, rocks or trees. With monumental or discreet sculptures, spectacular installations erected in meadows or near ponds, the Domaine des Etangs offers visitors a sensitive and sensual experience that connects them to the forces of Nature and to the sense of beauty that emanates from it.

The Domaine invites one to travel between the earth and the sky, between leaves and clouds, to where the outside world affects and transforms our inner world.

Lee Ufan, Tomás Saraceno, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Ugo Rondinone, Richard Long, Tony Cragg, Irina Rasquinet, Elmgreen & Dragset...: great figures of contemporary art enrich and brighten the Domaine des Etangs, through a trail and an exhibition designed as the signature of the place, highlighting the way in which nature inspires those artists, who in return reveal it all the better. If nature exists as such, it exists even more potently when art observes it, represents it and finds its way into its lair. While each work develops its own language, linked to a specific apparatus and context, they all share a few common motifs. Through a secret game of correspondences and affinities, from colours to materials, the trail reveals a real visual and sensorial consistency, as if each piece interacted with another, as if each artist communicated with another as Art and Nature merge. Everything is reflected in everything. It is the interconnection and symbiosis of Nature and Art, like two magnetic forces drawn together, that unfold at the Domaine des Etangs. An estate that challenges the categories of Art and Nature.

All of these pieces, spread between La Laiterie and a trail across the estate, highlight the links between the rational and the irrational, the infinitely small and the infinitely big, the visible and the invisible, the sky and the earth. All of them carry the pledge of the Domaine des Etangs: a place dedicated to protecting and loving our environment, as illustrated by the creation of on-site biodiversity inventories in collaboration with scientists.
